About the Class

These mat based classes combine the classical principles of pilates in creative flows meant to activate your breath, focus, strength, and flexibility. Led by instructor Julia Beros, classes will offer you a personalized challenge in a community centered environment. Classes aim to provide variety and accessibility for different levels allowing movers to build a deeper awareness of their range and autonomy in their practice. As a group we support each other and meet ourselves where we are to cultivate new perspectives, increase mobility and strength, and build habits of mindful moving to carry with us outside of class.

Classes are offered at sliding scale. Byo mat (we also have some available to borrow here). Bring some water, a friend, or just you ♡



What is Pomalo?

Pomalo is a word in Dalmatian meaning "a little bit" although it's cultural significance carries much more. The word can be used to offer its recipient a slower unhurried pace, to bring ease into something, or to find a deliberate calmness in one's approach. In my family, and all along the coast I have heard the word applied to many instances: walking hastily with frantic emotions, eating too quickly without enjoying the flavors and textures, or jumping to conclusions without all the facts. I chose this word as part of my practice because it resonates in my relationship to movement: slowing down to hear what is happening within myself and being guided by this sensory and somatic experience. While we may at times move swiftly through class, the sentiment of pomalo can be applied when we lose that deeper connection to our experience. Slow down, find the breath, and relate it to the movement and direction of our energy.

About the Space

Pomalo Pilates community classes are held weekly in a beautiful loft space housed at Guardian Baltimore Jiu jitsu studio. Once you enter the building walk straight back to the next door and up the stairwell.
